    Cabover Truck – COE: Short for Cab Over Engine, the driver sits about the engine compartment. No sleeping compartment. Since the driver sits above the engine in this design, there is no need for a hood, creating a flat-faced truck with no nose.

    In its hay day, this truck was wildly popular among trucking fleets because it allowed them to use longer trailers without violating the length laws of the time. While laxer laws related to length of trucks on the road in the U.S. have made them less popular in the States, they are still widely used throughout Europe, Japan, and Australia.

    This cab design is making a bit of a comeback in the U.S. as nostalgia for these designs kicks in and trucking companies are growing more desperate (thanks to a growing driver shortage) to improve driver retention rates. Some companies are using these trucks in certain areas in an effort to attract and retain experienced drivers.
