The roustabout, or gin pole truck, is a vehicle that is for lifting loads and moving them. The truck has a pair of poles to lift heavy machinery. They are like the traditional tow truck, the difference being the two poles. These trucks resemble the old gin pole, a primitive form of lifting loads from the early 1900s.
The roustabout of today features a standard truck cab and a flatbed back with poles and chains. You will find newer models that have extended cab and rear-view camera to add extra vision. Drivetrains are available in 4x4 and 4x2. It runs on diesel, with no known biodiesel vehicles currently. Caterpillar and Ford are the two most popular brands on the market today.
