Top 10 Best Interstates for Long-Haul Driving

Everyone enjoys a stress-free day at work. For long-haul truck drivers, this often means roads free of construction zones, highways with ample parking, and access to convenient amenities. Factors like fuel prices and truck stop facilities also play a significant role in a driver’s route preferences.

In 2023, Trucker Path, a company specializing in management solutions for truck drivers, agents, and trucking fleets, published an assessment of the most and least favorable interstate routes for truck drivers. The assessment highlights 19 interstate highways using various criteria to determine their overall favorability.

Trucker Path’s findings are based on ratings and reviews from over 20 million truckers who use the app monthly. A few key factors provided insight into truckers’ overall experiences along these routes:

  • Parking safety, ease, and accessibility.
  • Fuel prices along trucking corridors.
  • The amenities available at truck stops.

Although not part of the overall rating criteria, drivers also addressed a few additional factors. According to input collected on Trucker Path, the northernmost east-west routes and the westernmost north-south routes are considered by many to be the most trucker-friendly freight corridors.

Many truckers consider Interstate 90 the safest interstate in the country. Spanning from Seattle to Boston and passing through 13 states, I-90 is popular among truckers for being less congested and better maintained compared to other interstates. The scenic views along I-90 are also a positive talking point for drivers, making it the highest-rated of the 19 interstates surveyed.
