Delivery vans are essential for transporting “last mile” goods to businesses and consumers because they are a cost-effective way to move smaller batches of items that would be difficult for a larger rig to transfer. This is certainly demonstrated in urban settings where the smaller vans have a distinct advantage when it comes to parking and maneuverability for an on-time dispatch.

A Cornucopia of Choices
With the compilation of this list, we’re looking at more popular models from some of the most well-known manufacturers. This is not an endorsement of any particular make or model, but more of a starting point for you to jumpstart your search when you look to buy a vehicle for your delivery business. With that in mind, here are five of the most popular vans available now, along with one newcomer:
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Sprinter is considered by many as the flagship of delivery vans when it comes to cargo capacity, reliability, safety features, and creature comforts. It is available in both diesel and electric configurations, and Mercedes-Benz offers a wide array of features so you can “build your own” van by picking and choosing the options that best suit your needs.
- General Motors. GM offers two models that are very similar in nature but offer two different “badges” for those who are loyal to a particular brand—the Chevrolet Express and the GMC Savana. Both offer proven durability at a competitive price point for those who are looking for a no-nonsense vehicle for their delivery needs. Both are available with gasoline-powered engines.
- Ford Transit. The Transit (gasoline-powered) and E-Transit (electric-powered) are both highly configurable vehicles with great cargo space. Car and Driver recently gave the Transit top honors in its “Best Full-Size Vans” ranking for 2025 vehicles, stating that it has “relaxed handling and easy maneuverability.”
- Dodge Ram ProMaster. Considered an excellent choice for urban settings because of its front-wheel drive, maneuverability, and square cargo area, the ProMaster is available in a gas-powered version in addition to the all-electric ProMaster EV.
- BrightDrop Zevo 600. In addition to the Chevrolet Express, Chevy offers an all-electric delivery van option with the BrightDrop Zevo 600. While offering a large cargo space, the BrightDrop has an estimated range of just under 300 miles and is available in all-wheel drive. BrightDrop is a former General Motors business unit that was founded in 2021 and sold electric delivery vans. It merged with the Chevrolet division in 2024 for the 2025 model year.
A Drive For Excellence
There are several factors to take into account when considering the purchase of a delivery van, including:
- Fuel. The three main types of engines currently available on production vehicles include gas, diesel, and electric. Gasoline-powered vehicles are a primary choice because gasoline is so readily available. On the other hand, diesel vehicles often offer more power and typically last longer and have fewer mechanical issues over the life of the engine. With fuel prices being unpredictable, an all-electric vehicle is also a good choice, especially if you have a charging station at your work and the van won’t be operating outside of its charge range.
- Volume. The available square footage inside the van is also a key factor. If you tend to carry larger cargo, you should look for a van that has the largest available volume OR one that best suits the configuration of your cargo. For example, if you normally carry long items, total volume is less of a consideration than total length of the van’s cargo area. The same goes for taller items. Just remember, a larger cargo volume generally means greater fuel consumption. If you can get by with a smaller model, you’ll save money on transportation costs over time.
- Features. While different delivery vans are similar in many respects, every manufacturer and model will offer slightly different elements and configurations. Read through what each has to offer and decide if your needs are covered by a bare-minimum approach or if extra gadgets or premium options are needed to keep you and/or your delivery driver safer and more comfortable.
